Beyond The Veil
Beyond The Veil
Luminous Realms
By delving into the quantum world, one becomes enmeshed in the possibilities of multiple realities, parallel universes, and unseen worlds.
Beyond The Veil: Luminous Realms expresses the idea that the multiverse is not wrapped in darkness but illuminated by infinite light and possibilities.
In Beyond the Veil: Luminous Realms, I examine the multiverse and its dimensions. I use light as a metaphor to invite viewers to witness the interplay of light beyond our immediate perception. These paintings become portals – a slit in the fabric of time and space – that allow light to move between both visible and invisible worlds.
This series of paintings represents a departure from my previous work, which were more fluid and textural. Although I continue to pour paint in varying viscosities to create organic shapes and washes, I am now introducing geometric shapes and forms to represent light traveling “through the veils of invisible worlds.” The final images juxtapose sharp strokes and opaque shapes with transparent, fluid, and soft areas and lines to create tension and movement across the canvas. Up to this point, my hands have been my primary tools with limited use of brushes. However, in this transition process, brushes have become crucial in creating depth and the translucency needed to capture reflected light.
In building layer upon layer of thin paint with a diverse palette and painting tools, my goal is to capture the essence of invisible worlds, where light reveals the hidden beauty of the unknown.

Beyond The Veil
written Aazam Irilian, March 2021
I stand in the midst of
All that is light,
All that is calm,
All that is quiet.
With a cracking sound,
A window,
A portal,
Breaks open.
Veils of color,
Appear in layers of shimmering lights,
Flashes with reflective edges.
Stepping beyond the veils,
I find myself,
In worlds, intriguing and vast,
Each more astonishing than the next—
Than the one prior.
Tears of joy,
Gently stroke my skin,
Witnessing unimaginable beauty,
Invisible to my physical eyes.
A Year of Experimentation
For this body of work, my goal was to capture the ethereal light and the multidimensionality of our universe. I worked on many canvases, often feeling dissatisfied as I struggled to make the envisioned light visible.
Below are several examples from last year’s experimentation. I hope this section provides you, the viewer, with some context about my goals and approach in creating this work.
